Event Details

With the Nooku heaquarters just a few miles away, the Nooku Jam almost comes home on the 26-27th of November in Leuven, Belgium. Our friends from FlandersDC will be hosting the Jam in their uber awesome Creativity Lab which will be opened specially for us during the weekend.. Creativity, innovation and inspirtation will be the theme.

Expect not one day, but a full weekend of intense presentations, discussions, brainstorms, workshops, hackathons, ... around specific areas of the Nooku project. Offcourse in good Nooku tradition there will be a Nooku Party

We hope to provide free T-shirts, lunch and drinks to all attendees, but we can only do this with assistance from sponsors (Contact us for information on sponsoring).

What is it ?

Nooku Jam is an unconference community building event focussed mostly on developing with the Nooku Platform. Jams are born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, hacking and interaction from developers who are the main actors of the event.

This Jam is a great oppurtunity for Nookuers to meet in person, to put a face on a lot of quirky mailing list and IM nicknames, and to spend some quality time together!

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. When you come, be prepared to share with other attendees. When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.

Programme ?

It is strongly recommended that attendees give a demo, facilitate session, or help with one. This is called sharing and we like it. Don't be intimidated by this, just think about what you're passionate about and come give a talk on it. It could be anything...code you have written, a project you are working on, an idea that you have, ...

We have four speaking rooms in the lab, and a projector or screen will be available at all but one of them if you'd like to make some slides. If you'd like to just lead a discussion, you can sign up to do that without a projector as well.

You won't need to decide what you want to talk about until you get there. We won't be scheduling talks until the day of the event (that's part of the fun). We'll build a schedule with speakers together on a whiteboard starting at 9:30 AM on November 26th, 2011, the day of the event.

Schedule

9:00  am  - Doors open, people can register and small introduction

9:30  am  - People can sign up for talks on the big whiteboard

10:00 am - Talks start. There are four rooms for presentations, and each presentation will have 25 minutes and they will be spaced out. We recommend that you limit your talks to about 20 minutes to allow 5 minutes for discussion (and incase you run long).

12:00 am - Lunch is served, we take 2 hours break

14:00 pm - Talks resume

16:00 pm - Nooku Hackathon and Workshops. Oppurtunity for developers to hack on Nooku together or attend one of the workshops. (more info to follow).

18::00 pm - Day ends. We are going out for dinner and diving into the Leuven nightscene.

We are also organing a pre-event meetup on Friday evening 25th November for the people who are already coming in early. Please let us know when singing up so we can reseve a dinner spot for you.

Location

Nowadays Leuven is a real "student city", as during the academic year most citizens in its centre are students. Leuven sports one of the liveliest bar scenes in Belgium. Besides boasting the "longest bar" in Europe, the Old Market, tens of bars and cafe's crammed into a central square in Leuven. The Catholic University Leuven is the oldest Catholic university still in existence.

The event venue is very well connected, the train station is only 100m walk away and trains are going from Brussels Airport twice every hour.

Hotels

There are a number of hotels at walking distance from the venue. We recommend Novotel which is only 100m walk from the event venue.
